This is the seminar our group had conducted.
Ilumina TV is really cool! Although it may seem that it is too visionary, it has a deeper goal than just being the pioneer of an emerging technology. It actually aims to give Philippines its own TV brand. If we think of Japan and US, there are lots of brands that we may think of, but the Philippines, NOT even one. This is what the Inovent Inc. wants to change, they also want to make the Philippines known as one of the pioneering countries for emerging technologies such as this interactive tv.
Ilumina is an internet-capable tv. It can do stuffs which are done using your PC. In the ordinary home theater, there would be a TV, a dvd player, a game console and speakers. But with Ilumina, you can find all those mentioned into a single machine: the Ilumina TV! ALL THOSE MACHINES DOWN INTO ONE &&.. WITH INTERNET CAPABILITIES! :> The first time I heard this, I thought of PS3 and that it can now be incorporated in the whole machine. COOL! Having a home theater in the family room could be less expensive. (Ilumina of course, will be expensive, but could still cost less than buying an appliance for each functionalities that the Ilumina tv could offer)
Ilumina could also be a problem-solver to tv junkies out there. It has a feature that enables users to record shows in its PVR (Personal View Recorder). The owner could now watch two series with the same time slot. Pause is also allowed when Ilumina is in PVR mode.
The speaker also told us that, for sure, they are not the only company that is developing the interactive tv and since they are only a small company, they are experiencing difficulties in entering the industry. As of now, the company is also focusing on the tv but they also are developing some technologies as well like cellphones and such.
The speaker that we have invited is also a DLSU alumni. He's from the college of Eng, ID 105. I am actually glad to see that he's like one of the pioneers of Ilumina TV. I hope that they will succeed in their quest of giving honor to our country (and pride to the school as well).
There were also students from eng in the seminar. They were interested in the new technology that was presented and asked a lot of questions. So over all, the seminar really went well, good speaker and nice audience. :)
I hope that the Philippine government help and support all the Pinoy inventors because its not only these inventors who will benefit if their products get established. It will bring pride and honor to our country and also, it will bring job opportunities to other Filipinos.
I only have one question left in my mind right now: I wonder who gets to patent this technology first knowing that there are also other companies in the first world country who are trying to be the "first mover" in the industry.
